Berlin: Bayern Munich announced, Tuesday, that it plans to show the red card for paper tickets, and switch to green using digital tickets only as soon as fans can attend matches on their home turf next season.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all matches at Bayern have been played at the Allianz Arena behind closed doors since March 2020.
However, once hygiene restrictions are lifted and fans can attend matches on their home grounds again, the club’s world champions plan to stop using paper tickets and put all tickets online for 2021/22.
“Sustainability, conservation of resources and reducing carbon dioxide emissions are central issues at FC Bayern Munich,” said club vice president Jean-Christian Driessen.
He claims that by stopping the use of paper or plastic for tickets, Bayern Munich could also dispose of “about 350,000 printed letters previously mailed to”.
Bayern, who are seven points clear of the Bundesliga top with three games remaining, are preparing to be the confirmed champions of the league for the ninth consecutive season on Saturday. – France Press agency
