COVID hits IPL: CSK-RR match rescheduled due to positive Balaji report

The BCCI will reschedule the IPL match on Wednesday between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals here as CSK has been forced into a difficult quarantine after bowling coach El Balaji tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the Board of Directors’ standard operating procedures, anyone who has had contact with an infected person must go through six days of severe quarantine and return three negative reports of RT-PCR in the meantime.

“Tomorrow’s match at Aaron Gaitley Stadium will be rescheduled between CSK and RR according to SOP rules. Since Balaji was in contact with the players, they are all in difficult quarantine. They are supposed to be tested daily,” PTI official on terms of anonymity .

When CSK CEO, Cassie Vizwanathan was contacted, he said that CSK had informed BCCI of Balaji’s RT-PCR result.

Viswanathan said: “For our part, we have been informed that Balaji has tested positive and, in accordance with the standard operating procedures, our players have been isolated.”

This is the second IPL match to be rescheduled after Monday’s match between Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore due to two KKR players – Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrior – who tested positive.

This evening, Delhi will host the Mumbai Indian match against the Sun Riders Hyderabad.
