Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Monday that the second division matches of the AFC Club Cup group stage in the Eastern Province have been postponed to June due to challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Group J matches were initially scheduled to take place in Hong Kong from May 14-20, but will now take place from June 23-29.
“The AFC has approved the proposal of the Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA) to reschedule Group J matches in the AFC Cup,” the AFC said in a statement.
“The decision was confirmed, taking into account the ongoing challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and allowing more time to ensure optimal match delivery.”
Group J includes Athletic Mongolia 220, East Long Lions in Hong Kong and Li Man as well as Taiwan’s Tainan City.
The 2020 edition of the AFC Cup was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic when quarantine regulations in several countries made international travel nearly impossible. Reuters
