SunRisers Hyderabad removes Warner from the leadership, and Williamson takes charge

SunRisers Hyderabad on Saturday removed the underperforming David from the captaincy and handed the reins over to New Zealand captain Ken Williamson for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Under Warner, SRH lost five of its six matches because the Aussie weren’t at their best in the current edition.

SRH said in a statement: “SunRisers Hyderabad would like to announce that Ken Williamson will take over the leadership for tomorrow’s match and the remainder of IPL 2021”.

The statement added: “The team management also made a decision to change the external squad for tomorrow’s match against the Rajasthan Royals,” indicating the possibility of excluding Warner from the starting line-up.

West Indies captain Jason Holder is likely to replace Warner in the eleventh game. In his six innings, Warner scored 3, 54, 36, 37, 6, and 57.

“The decision was not taken seriously as management respects the tremendous influence that David Warner has had on the franchise over several years. As we face the rest of the season, we are sure David will continue to help us in pursuit of success and beyond.”
