Brisbane to host the 2032 Olympic Games

Brisbane will host the 2032 Olympics, the inevitable winner of a one-city race hosted by the International Olympic Committee to avoid competing bids.

The Games will return to Australia 32 years after the popular 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Melbourne hosted guests in 1956.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison told IOC voters in an 11-minute live video link from his office that Australia knows what it takes to host the Games successfully.

Brisbane follows Los Angeles in 2028 and gets 11 years to prepare for the Games. Paris wants to host in 2024.

The 2032 deal for the Australian city on the east coast looked complete even months before the official decision of the IOC members at their meeting ahead of the Tokyo Games, which opens on Friday.
