It was the home of kings, queens and dukes, and now you can sleep and dine like royalty.
Do you want to become Queen of the Tudors for a day or follow in the footsteps of King Henry VIII?
Thornbury Castle, the dream of all Bridgerton fans, was built to impress the most powerful people across the country – and five centuries later, the same room where Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn slept is available to guests.
In 1535, the couple spent 10 nights at the castle and their bedroom, the suite of King Henry VIII, with the original stone spiral steps leading into the castle and still intact. 2Chill Records.
The castle, located just outside Bristol, has 27 meticulously restored bedrooms named after key figures in Tudor history.
Whether it is De Percy or De Clare, the rooms have a unique charm.
Located in the main wing of the castle, the deluxe rooms are decorated in a traditional castle style. Many rooms have four-poster beds and stone-carved fireplaces.
Adjacent to the Gloucestershire countryside, the outside is just as breathtaking, as tall as when it was first built, and the castle is surrounded by 15 acres of walled Tudor gardens.
Following a multi-million dollar renovation program in spring 2021, guests can enjoy a luxurious and sophisticated stay at the castle hotel, as Thornbury Castle is the only Tudor castle in the UK to operate as a hotel and restaurant.
The restaurant serves a variety of modern and traditional British-style dishes using many ingredients from the castle’s own kitchen and herb garden.
Guests can also enjoy a variety of activities to experience the atmosphere of Tudor England.
Including private history tours, garden walking tour, ax throwing, sword skills, archery, falconry, lawn croquet, and even the chance to become a Tudor queen for a day.
The beautiful 16th-century building was originally built by Edward Stafford, the only person who could rival the king in wealth and status at the time.
It was a display of wealth and ambition that Henry did not take lightly, and after Stafford was found guilty of high treason, the king took control of the castle.
