PESTLE & Mortar Clothing (PMC) never ceases to amaze us with its pop culture-inspired collaborations, drawing on the power of nostalgia to recapture positive vibes, borrowing the aesthetics and elements of the past to tell a new story.
This time around, the Malaysian streetwear brand has teamed up with one of the most classic films, 1984’s Ghostbusters for a collection to celebrate its next sequel film. Ghostbusters: Afterlife the release is scheduled for November 2021.
PMC co-founder Hugh Koh shares, “Being born in the 1980s and 1990s, many have seen the film, sang the theme song and even played some of the main characters. We wanted to share these fond memories with our customers and proceeded to contact Ghostbusters brand owner Sony Pictures for a potential collaboration in 2019.
“We didn’t want to stray too far from the iconic imagery of the film. To do this, we highlighted key moments from the film and also made our popular clothing designs and silhouettes such as the Flying Mechanic Tee and Ghost Trap Tee to allow for seamless integration of both brands. “
The 15-piece collection fuses the vintage shades of Ghostbusters with PMC’s modern streetwear narrative, with a range of graphic tees, bowling t-shirts, swim shorts, a hoodie and the iconic crew jacket modeled on the brown ghostbusters uniforms.
“Having collaborated a handful of times, we have optimized our communication strategy early on in the proposal to ensure that this collaboration speaks to both brands. We always convey that we are not a brand that just extracts graphics and applies them to our clothes, so to build our case, we revisited data from our past collections to justify some decisions we make, ”adds Koh.
“The core of any partnership is staying true to the brand’s DNA. We also wanted to make sure that each piece was unique and that it was something you couldn’t already buy out there. “
