Proton sold 15,017 cars in April, 26.7% market share.

Kuala Lumpur: Proton Holdings Bhd (Proton) sold 15,017 units of cars in April, an increase of 0.18% month over month and equaling an estimated market share of 26.7%.

Proton said in a statement today that its performance in April marked the third consecutive month of sales growth.

The automaker said: “Overall, Proton continued to consolidate its hold on the second position in the sales rankings table with a 24.4% market share for the year, while the total volume is now 47,843 units for the first four months of the year.” .

It said the evergreen Proton Saga is back to the top of the national sales chart with 5,472 units sold in April.

“Although the number is a slight decrease compared to the previous month, the demand for Proton bestseller is still good and ahead of the number of units offered,” Broughton said.

As for SUV models, the Proton X50 recorded delivery of 3,583 units in April, while the Proton X70 saw a total delivery of 2,101 units.

“The combined figure of 5,684 units is the company’s second best selling month for its SUVs and is slightly behind the record set in March,” the company said.

Proton Edar CEO Ruslan Abdullah said April has been a good month for the auto industry, noting that apart from Proton, many other car brands have seen their best monthly sales of the year so far.

He said the total size of the industry is estimated at more than 56,000 units as all brands try to fulfill sales orders before the sales tax incentives for the national economic renewal plan expire at the end of June.

“For Proton, we are continuing our efforts to meet the strong demand for our products while maintaining a high level of product quality.

“At the same time, we are focusing on improving customer service and addressing issues related to spare parts availability, which is vital as our sales volume increases,” he said, adding that the situation is expected to witness a significant improvement as the year progresses. – Bernama
