temporary resident visa for independent workers

Europe has begun opening its doors to the digital nomad — a remote worker, typically from a Western country, who’s employment was temporarily shifted to at-home due to the pandemic — and Portugal is setting itself apart with its temporary resident visa for independent workers and entrepreneurs. The visa allows visitors to stay for up to a year with multiple re-entries.

The new temporary resident visa is ideal for those looking to escape tiny urban apartments or suburban homes. The country also greatly benefits as long-term visitors can support local economies without displacing any permanent residents’ jobs. As the world continues to adjust to the “new normal” and rely more heavily on technology, we can expect other countries to follow suit.
