Why Does Queen Elizabeth Want Meghan Markle and the Countess of Wessex to Become Friends? – The Cheat Sheet

While Meghan Markle is keeping a low profile these days in preparation for the birth of Baby Sussex, she will eventually have to resume her royal duties.

The new mom will likely be kept busy with a wide variety of royal engagements, including charity functions, sporting events, and high-society gatherings.

Even though one might think that Meghan Markle could have a difficult time finding kindred spirits at many of these engagements, considering her California background, it seems like she might have a new best friend to turn to.

Does Meghan Markle stay in touch with her friends?

Ever since her marriage to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle hasn’t had a lot of leisure time. She got started on her royal duties right after the wedding, following a very brief honeymoon, and has been on the go ever since.

Although Markle clearly loves the work and has spoken out many times about how much she enjoys devoting her time to charitable causes, it is likely that she still finds time to talk to friends.

While her high-profile friends include celebs like Amal Clooney and Priyanka Chopra, Markle’s other close friends might surprise some royal watchers.

Reportedly, she still keeps in close contact with her Suits co-stars. Her roster of pals also includes well-known fashion designers, sports stars, and consultants. She certainly was able to enjoy some time with her nearest and dearest at her February baby shower, held over two days in New York City.

Who is the Countess of Wessex?

Although Markle has her own bubble of friends, none of them are members of the royal family. It seems only natural that Meghan Markle would want to try and find some people within the royal circle that she can talk to and commiserate with, discussing similar experiences and ways to approach tough situations.

A few weeks following Markle’s May 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, the couple stepped out on one of Markle’s very first royal engagements – the Royal Ascot, a horse racing event that is reportedly a big favorite of Queen Elizabeth’s. Stylishly dressed in white and black, Markle sat next to the Countess of Wessex, the wife of Prince Edward, and a firm fixture at many royal events.

Royal match-making

The seating arrangements were likely orchestrated in some way by Queen Elizabeth, who reportedly wants the Countess of Wessex and Meghan Markle to become close friends.

A royal source claims that Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, has managed to raise her children in a modest, quiet manner, well away from the spotlight. This is similar to how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want to raise their children, so the Countess could be an excellent mentor for Markle and a great parental role model as well.

Like Markle, the Countess of Wessex also had a thriving career prior to marrying into the royal family. She worked in public relations before her marriage to Prince Edward, and even after welcoming two children, has continued a busy schedule as a working royal.

She works with over seventy different charitable organizations and has a keen interest in furthering opportunities for children and people with disabilities. Her work ethic and commitment to charity definitely seems in line with Markle’s own philosophies.

It certainly makes sense that Queen Elizabeth wants Markle to have friends within the royal family. Although headlines often claim that Markle doesn’t get along with her royal in-laws, it actually seems that the queen really loves Markle, and wants her to be as happy as possible in her new role.

Certainly, after the arrival of Baby Sussex, the family will rally even closer around Meghan Markle and make sure that she stays happy and healthy.
