Star Wars fans, get ready to add your new Disney hotel to your wishlist – no need to head out to a galaxy far away.
Instead, you’ll want to bookmark a trip to Walt Disney World, Orlando, in 2022, which will open a new Star Wars themed hotel. But it’s not just the decor and personality coming and going that makes this an exciting launch – the entire stay will be a completely immersive experience.
Guests in Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will become part of the story, interact with characters as they explore the ship, and complete a mission to the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.
Disney already shared a glimpse of what will be presented with artists’ impressions of the hotel, but has now also revealed some extra details such as clever decorating tricks to make you feel like you are in the space, as well as more details about the dining experiences on display, and an overview of what we can expect from the experience .
We take a look at everything we know so far ….
The immersive experience
Guests who book at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will enjoy an immersive two-night and two-night experience.
The idea is that you are staying at the Halcyon Starcruiser (think a luxurious cruise vacation, just in space).
Guests can interact with characters, crew, and other passengers – and their choices will determine how their adventure will play, so no two accommodations will be the same.
The experience begins when you check-in at Walt Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Terminal. You’ll get into a Launch Pod that jumps into super-space, and “windows” provide a look at the galaxy as you get close to the starcruiser.
From here, guests will instantly exit to the main deck atrium … and the experience begins.
Be sure to keep an eye out for notables like Rey, who will be walking around using an entirely new photorealistic light sword designed by Imagineers.
There are lots of fun activities, but lightsaber training you can do has to be complete with the “remote control” you take in battle, plus a trip to starcruiser’s Bridge to learn how to operate the ship’s systems. (According to Walt Disney World, these skills “could come in handy while on a journey through this adventure galaxy”).
Oh, and of course the stay includes a trip to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park on dedicated transport, where you can also immerse yourself in the world of Planet Batuu including a chance to lead the Millenium Falcon itself in an action-packed ride.
Walt Disney World previously provided peek inside the rooms, which were decorated to look exactly like the cabin of a spaceship. (There’s even an orange and white chart that could be a tribute to the iconic costumes worn by fighter pilots in the Star Wars films.)
The rooms have a large double bed for the parents, while the little adventurers will undoubtedly love the themed bunk beds built into the wall, with art paintings that can make children pretend they are controlling the ship.
The cool feature is that every “window” in the starcruiser, including the one in your room, will provide a “galaxy view” with changing horizons as the ship advances from destination to destination.
The Crown of the Corellia Dining Room is where guests will find their main meals, with breakfast and lunch in the colossal hall.
Come in the evening, the menu will become a lavish multi-course affair, and although we don’t know much about the exact dishes yet, Disney has promised meals “of other familiar origins”.
On one night of their stay, guests will enjoy dinner with “a live performance from a galaxy star that can captivate a room complete with Twi’lek’s purple bejeweled toe bend”.
Star Wars fans might also recognize the nod to the dining room’s name, as Corellia is the planet known for its shipyards – which also happens to be where the iconic Millennium Falcon was built.
When does it open?
Forming (light) years have passed, but with the impact of the Covid pandemic, the hotel’s opening has been delayed. Originally scheduled to open this year, it is now postponed to 2022, although Walt Disney World has yet to confirm the exact opening date.
