The uncertainty about travel restrictions during the pandemic has led travel companies to launch new flexible reservation policies, including the likes of TUI, Jet2, easyJet and more.
After all, there are many factors that play a role in why you don’t want to travel – a travel ban means you can’t, quarantine rules mean the trip no longer resumes, and of course a lot of Covid-related reasons including if it’s you or Anyone you travel with needs self-isolation.
The UK government is expected to announce details of the overseas holiday restart in the coming weeks, which will include a confirmed restart date (May 17 at the earliest) and a traffic light system with countries on green, amber or red lists specifying if you need isolation Yourself or quarantine again in the UK.
So, what if you booked a vacation but something like quarantine rules or Covid rates changed, and you no longer want to go?
We take a look at the largest holiday companies’ rules on changing holiday dates and refund policies.
TUI is very flexible in their reservations, and in most cases you can rebook a new vacation for free.
For example, this applies if you / someone in your travel group has Covid and required to self-isolate when you are scheduled to leave for your vacation.
If a destination is put on the amber list (where you need to self-isolate at home in the UK), you can amend your reservation for free. This also applies if you have booked a green list destination but are later moved to a green list / amber list.
TUI said it will not offer holidays to Red List destinations, so anyone with a reservation will be offered the option of a full refund or a free rebooking.

British Airways offers a “Book with Confidence” policy that allows you to change dates or destinations for free.
You can also choose to cancel your vacation and get a voucher for your future trips.
This applies to reservations made on / after 3 March 2020 for flights scheduled to be completed by 30 April 2022.

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have currently suspended all flights and holidays until June 23. The company said it would automatically return affected customers and then communicate with them about their holiday reservation later in the year.
If you have booked a vacation but need to self-isolate due to the NHS Test and Trace, the company will also allow you to rebook to a later travel date for free.
No update yet regarding green, amber and red lists – Jet2 said it will wait for a government update before finalizing details.

The travel company, which was re-launched last year as an online travel agent, has said it will allow free adjustments to reservations that must be changed for Covid-related reasons.
This includes factors such as the need to self-isolate due to the NHS Test and Trace, if you or someone you travel with has Covid, or if government rules change and require you to quarantine /.
If the destination is on the amber list and asks you to isolate yourself at home in the UK, you can amend your vacation for free.
If the destination requires a mandatory hotel quarantine in the UK (also known to be on the red list), and the rules are in effect two weeks before your travel, they will allow you to either cancel with a full refund, or modify your vacation for free.

EasyJet recently updated its flexible booking policy for both flights and group holidays.
The airline now allows you to change your flight booking for free, up to two hours before departure. You’ll be able to change to any flight that’s on sale until September 2022 – and you won’t need to stick to the same destination you originally booked.
The airline also stated that if the country has mandatory hotel quarantine, you can choose to have a refund within four weeks before departure even if your flight is about to proceed, provided the restriction persists. Alternatively, travelers can choose to transfer their flights to a later date, or claim a coupon.
EasyJet has a valid ‘Promise of Protection’ that allows for free change of all holidays for up to 28 days before travel, plus free adjustments if your destination is on the amber list (which means self-isolation at home in the UK).
