Anthony Joshua provides fight update as Tyson Fury sparring pictures emerge

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury’s heavily-anticipated heavyweight bout looks a step closer to reality after a ‘positive’ update from the former.

The British fighters had been tipped to go head-to-head this summer in a clash to decide the undisputed world champion.

Joshua currently holds the IBF, WBA and WBO titles, while Fury is the reigning WBC champion, with all the belts set be on the line when they meet.

Taking to Twitter, Joshua sought to update fans with the latest regarding the as yet unsigned fight.

“Quick update,” he wrote “Myself, 258 mgt & Matchroom Boxing are working really hard to make the fight happen. I want to give my fans what they want & you know I’ll do whatever I can to deliver.

“Hoping to share some positive news soon.”

The news comes after details emerged of Fury employing his sparring partners as he prepares for the proposed bout.

Aleksandar Mraovic, the amateur boxer known as the “Austrian Bull” shared pictures of himself in the ring with the self-styled Gypsy King, as well as New Zealander Joseph Parker.

Fury captured the WBC crown in his last fight as he beat American Deontay Wilder by TKO in February last year.

Joshua’s last bout saw him successfully defend his titles against Kubrat Pulev in London last December.

The two men are expected to finally step in the ring this summer, with Wembley being touted as a possible location for the super-fight, although coronavirus restrictions could throw a spanner in the works.

“When you look at the Wembley option, which is still teetering around. Maybe unrealistic, but it’s another option that we’d like to present.” said promoter Eddie Hearn.

“That would be July 24th, for example, which is the end of the Euro period. Once you start going too deep into August, you’ve got the Olympics and so forth.

“I put this fight up there as the biggest sporting event of 2021. I know the Olympics is a big period. This is massive. This is something the whole world will stop to watch.”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan admitted he would be open to allowing the fight to take place at the venue.

“I’m keen to see Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury,” Khan told SNTV. “Wouldn’t it be great to see those two champions boxing amongst their own fans?

Other possible locations include Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Qatar, China, Dubai and the US.
