The Social Media world now has a Kanye sized hole in it.
Mr. West is in the building.
Kanye West logged back on to Twitter on Friday after shuttering his social media profiles back in May 2017. West has kept a low profile for much of the past year and a half, following his hospitalization and sudden cancellation of the remainder of his Saint Pablo tour in November 2016.
Ye deleted all of his past tweets, and he has posted 11 times since retweeting a welcome back message from Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey.
Does West’s return to social media mean new music is on the way? A new Yeezy season? Will all the tweets be deleted tomorrow? We’re breaking down what he’s been tweeting about so far.
West shouted out Lamar Odom with a photo from his Yeezy Season 3 presentation and album launch at Madison Square Garden in February 2016.
“My favorite moment of walking into MSG to play Saint Pablo,” West tweeted alongside the photo of the pair on Sunday.
Odom was married to West’s sister-in-law Khloe Kardashian. The same Kardashian sister who gave birth to a baby girl Thursday amidst a swirl of cheating rumors on the part of her baby daddy Tristan Thompson.
West’s timing is strange, at the very least. Perhaps he’s joining the masses throwing shade at Thompson?
The theory doesn’t seem plausible, as Odom was also plagued by cheating rumors during their relationship, and was found unresponsive in a Nevada brothel after a drug overdose in October 2015.
“I used to go to the hospital and play Lamar the album when he was learning to walk and talk again,” West tweeted. “Then we walked into the arena together.”
Just so we’re clear: Ye implied that Life of Pablo had the power to help Odom walk again. And at the same time, brought up a particularly difficult time in his sister-in-law’s life as said sister-in-law is going through another tumultuous time. So we can’t put anything else past him at this point.
Odom replied to West on Twitter Monday, tweeting: “Glad I could be there 4 u bro like u came thru 4 me. It was a big stage 2 be on after everything I went thru but it was worth it.”
As we know well, Yeezy isn’t afraid to get philosophical on social media. His musings on everything from water bottles next to him on planes, fonts and rugs with cherub imagery have become fodder for his philosophical thoughts.
“Some people have to work within the existing consciousness while some people can shift the consciousness,” West tweeted.
“Often people working with the existing consciousness are jealous of those who are more in touch and they become hard-core capitalist in hopes of creating the illusion that the value of money is worth more than the value of time and friends,” West added in a second tweet on the same stream of conscious.
His second tweet could be looked at as throwing shade at longtime creative collaborator Virgil Abloh, who was appointed as Louis Vuitton’s menswear designer in March. West did an interview with his interior designer Axel Vervoordt for The Hollywood Reporter published Friday, in which he finally opened up about his feelings on Abloh’s fashion ascension.
West says that Abloh’s new position was a “very heavy concept” for him to think about – potentially because he’s salty that Abloh reached that milestone first. He also added that “it’s not bad or good … because [Abloh and I] have been fighting to make apparel at a certain price that still has the same credibility and desirability as something at a higher price.”
West, 40, already sports tattoos on his arms, but might be looking to get into the neck tat game.
“I asked my friend to design this neck tat for me,” West tweeted on Sunday, accompanied by a photo of the design spelling out Saint West, the name of West’s son with wife Kim Kardashian West.
Recent photos of the rapper don’t seem to show him with a neck tattoo, but it’s possible Ye was waiting to approve the designs from designer Gosha Rubchinskiy before going under the tattoo gun for some fresh ink.
West posted a design of what looks to be a shoe from his upcoming Yeezy collection with Adidas, saying he was “still working to get these right.”
Despite all of the outbursts and overall shenanigans from “Spaz in the News Kanye,” including ranting about Jay-Z and Beyoncé onstage to taking a surprising meeting with President Trump, his collaboration doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon.
His Yeezy shoe line under Adidas has flourished and consistently sells out almost instantly with every release, garnering upwards of $2,000 in resale for some designs. Guess fans love Yeezys like Kanye loves Kanye.
Just because West hasn’t been on social media in a little while doesn’t mean he’s not hip to a good meme. He asked followers to “caption this” photo of a young boy mid-dance move.
Tweeted captions from fans include “when Kanye finally comes back to Twitter” and “when you return from a year long self-imposed Twitter cleanse and boutta shift the paradigm.” We imagine that Kanye is somewhere reading these and not smiling, because not smiling makes him smile.
