This afternoon: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Steady temperature around 75. Southwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 3am, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Cloudy, with a low around 60. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
A flash flood watch went into effect Thursday at noon and remains in effect until Friday at 6 a.m.

In northeast New Jersey, Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, and Union counties. In southeast New York, all five boroughs of New York City, plus Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, and Orange counties.
* From noon EDT today through late tonight.
* Tropical moisture surging northward from eastern North Carolina and Virginia will move up into the area this afternoon and tonight. Showers and a few thunderstorms will develop by this afternoon and continue into tonight, and the rain may be heavy at times.
* Areal average rainfall amounts of 1 1/2 to 2 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts of 2 to 4 inches possible. Any heavy rainfall that occurs within a 1 to 3 hour time frame may result in flash flooding. The heaviest rainfall is expected in and around New York City, and also across portions of Long Island and southern Connecticut.
