Bill and Melinda Gates, the president and founders of their eponymous research institute, announced Monday that they are ending their marriage.
The Microsoft co-founder and his wife, the former general manager of the company, have been married for 27 years.
“Over the past 27 years, we have raised three wonderful children and built a foundation that works around the world to enable all people to lead a healthy and productive life,” the couple said in a joint statement. “We continue to share faith in this mission and will continue our work together in the organization, but we no longer believe that we can grow together as a couple in this next stage of our lives.”
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is one of the world’s most powerful charitable endeavors and focuses on health, poverty, and causes related to education.
