Elon Musk and his girlfriend Grimes announced the birth of their baby last May.
The billionaire CEO of Tesla responded to one of his Twitter followers to reveal that Grimes was in business.
When asked to reveal the name of his son, Musk chirp: “X Æ A-12 Musk.”
At first, it wasn’t clear if Musk was joking about the name, or if it was ambiguous. It turned out that he was being serious.
After the name was announced, speculation arose that it might be against the law in California, where the couple lives, where the names can only use the 26 alphabets of the English language, according to the state constitution.
Grimes then confirmed that they changed the name to “X Æ A-Xii,” adding: “Roman numbers. Sounds better tbh.”
Grimes explained the meaning behind the name, saying that “X” means “unknown variable”. Meanwhile, “” is Elven’s spelling for artificial intelligence, an acronym for AI and the word “love” in several languages, such as Japanese.
“A-12 = Prelude to the SR-17 (our favorite plane). No weapons, no defenses, only speed. Great in battle, but non-violent.” The letter “A” in the name also represents “Archangel,” which is the title of a song by Boreal that she previously described as her favorite.
Grimes and Musk seem to have different ideas how to pronounce the name. “It’s just an X, like the letter X. Then AI. Then,” Grimes said, like how I said the letter A then I.
Meanwhile, Musk told podcast host Joe Rogan, “I mean, it’s just an X, the letter X. And then,, like, pronounces“ Ash ”… and then, A-12, A-12 is a contribution,” He said.
